Shaftesbury Dance Studio's Team Page
Bryl Berry - School Principal
Bryl started dancing when he was 5 years old and competed in major championships having many successes. At 16, he turned professional and established Shaftesbury Dance in 1968. He has been a full time teacher since then. He has always worked exclusively in dance.
In 1986, he became the youngest examiner to be appointed by the IDTA at that time (he showed that you did not have to be old to have the experience and skills to be a good examiner). Bryl is now one of the most highly qualified and respected Ballroom Branch examiners in the country.
One of his passions in training new teachers to achieve the high standards expected by the IDTA – proving if you want to be a teacher, the best person to train you is an examiner.
Margaret Berry - Studio Administrator
Margaret takes care of the day-to-day running of the School and helps to ensure the smooth running of the school including exams, outside events, timetables etc, as well as helping on reception. If she is unable to answer a query, she will know someone who can!
Louise Wilberforce - Head Dance Teacher
Miss Louise joined Shaftesbury Dance when she was 14 years old. She rapidly found a passion for dance, taking part in school shows and presentations, as well as doing dance exams. On leaving school, Louise decided that teaching dance was to be her career and so, with Bryls help, qualified as a Dance Teacher. She continues to study for further qualifications, ensuring she stays up to date and develops her own dance styles.
Miss Louise is an important member of the team, teaching Freestyle, Street, Ballroom, Latin, Cheerleading, and Rock ’n’ Roll as well as training pupils for competitions, demonstrations and medal exams.
Kim Woodall - Dance Teacher
Kim has been dancing since she was 5 years old and trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Stage as well as Ballroom & Latin. She has performed in both amateur and professional shows, including Ma Ma Mia on the West End in London. Kim enjoys working in the relaxed and fun atmosphere at Shaftesbury Dance.
Miss Luella - Dance Teacher
I started to dance at the age of eight with Shaftesbury Dance and have worked my way up the IDTA examination system to reach Presidents Award in Ballroom, Latin, Freestyle, Street and Rock & Roll. In addition to taking exams I have had many successes on the competition floor reaching many finals in Blackpool and recently winning a prestigious Latin competition held in the North West.
I am now a qualified professional with the IDTA and teach Freestyle, Street, Ballroom, Latin, Sequence and Rock ’n’ Roll training pupils for competitions, shows and exams.
